WHEN WE DID THIS, THE CITY OF SAINT AUGUSTINE AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS WERE ABLE TO RAISE $51,000 IN JUST FIVE DAYS FOR THE NON-PROFITS THAT WERE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE GIVING MACHINE.
AND THEY'RE NOT THE BIG NONPROFITS THAT ARE SPONSORED BY BIG, GIANT CORPORATIONS.
THEY'RE SMALL MEDIUM TO SMALL NONPROFITS.
AND ONE IS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
ONE IS FOR A FOOD PANTRY, ONE IS FOR REFUGEE CHILDREN, AND ONE IS FOR ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS, AS WELL AS THE HOMELESS HERE IN SAINT JOHNS COUNTY.
IT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL LAST TIME.
WE USUALLY HAVE LIKE A LITTLE PHOTO BOOTH AREA WHERE PEOPLE TAKE PICTURES BECAUSE THEY WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA, THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO HELP SOMEBODY ELSE AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.
WE PLAN JUST A SMALL ONE-HOUR PRESENTATION ON GIVING TUESDAY WHERE THE NONPROFITS CAN ALL TALK ABOUT THEIR CHARITY AND HIGHLIGHT THEM.

SO SHOULD SOMEONE VIOLATE THIS THIS ORDINANCE? THERE IS THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES.

AND SO INSTEAD OF DOING THE SPECIAL MAGISTRATE WHICH WOULD KIND OF REQUIRE US TO GO THROUGH THE CODE ENFORCEMENT BOARD AND THEN MAY NOT ALWAYS COVER EVERY SCENARIO GIVEN KIND OF WHERE LIKE IF SOMEBODY, IF AN INDIVIDUAL PROPERTY OWNER WINDS UP APPLYING FERTILIZER TO A CITY SIDEWALK, THAT'S NOT REALLY GOING TO BE A GOOD SCENARIO FOR THAT.
SO IN ORDER TO KIND OF BE A LITTLE BIT EASIER AND A LITTLE BIT MORE EFFECTIVE, WE THIS WAS OUR RECOMMENDATION TO DO THE CRIMINAL SIDE OR NON-CRIMINAL CITATION AND KEEP THE FINE LOWER AS WELL.
SO IT CAN REALLY BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR EDUCATION IF THE FINE ISN'T TOO CUMBERSOME.
